G.A.Serlachius Inc. had Honkahovi built in 1938 by Mäntänlahti bay, in close proximity of the present-day town, to be used as the official residence of the then superintendent and future CEO R. Erik Serlachius.
Designed by architect Jarl Eklund, the beautiful Functionalist building sits beautifully among the large pines. The large downstairs windows look out over a breathtaking view of Mäntänlahti bay on Lake Kuorevesi.
Opened for business in November 2011, ArtHotel Honkahovi is a high-quality hotel and restaurant.
In 1904, Julius Johnson had Kuokkala Manor built in Äijälänjoki bay. The house was designed by Wivi Lönn, one of the first female architects in Finland. The house has lived through various phases, including functioning as a maternity hospital between 1940 and 1960. The Kauko Sorjonen Foundation began taking care of the manor in 1998, restoring it to its full glory.
Today, you can visit the manor to experience a flicker of the old atmosphere and to admire the marvelous details and works of art among the furniture. The manor café serves fresh coffee and home made treats, custom-made food events and festivities, and guided tours for groups. An art exhibition by the Kauko Sorjonen Foundation is featured upstairs and temporary exhibitions downstairs.
